SESSION ON BUSINESS ETHICS BY MR. HARISH AHUJA WITH GRADUATE & OPERATIVE TRAINEES AND DIRECT RECRUITS ON 8TH AUGUST, 2008

Mr. K,N.Mishra, Vice President & Ethics Counsellor during his welcome address mentioned that Mr. Harish Ahuja, VP TQMSs and also the Corporate Chief on Management of Business Ethics , reporting directly to Tata Sons visit to TCIL was mainly to interact with the young officials of TCIL.

Mr. Ahuja at the outset expressed his satisfaction in meeting the Future of the Group and was looking forward to a vibrant discussion considering the reputation and the way TCIL has been spearheading Business Ethics across the organisation . He emphasized that there is a CODE , and its upto the organization how to spread the CODE , which is a set guideline for employees to conduct themselves in the TATA Group. He appraised that TQMS tries to take a feedback across level, geographies, whether the CODE is being maintained and also, based on Assurance finding, message is shared with the Sr. Leadership Team.

He highlighted based on the Group Assurance Survey findings, the following points have emerged which is being worked upon across the group:

  1. Top Management is seen as a Role Model.

  2. Leadership must talk about the Value of the CODE

  3. More policies and procedures to support guidelines for conduct of business.

  4. Actions taken on violations must be communicated. 

The points raised mainly on the questions raised by Mr. James Davis, Divisional Ethics Coordinator ( HR & Personnel) to the Trainees and Direct recruits revolved around:

(a)              Refinement of behavioral aspects.

(b)              Societal acceptance by adopting Business Ethics.

(c)               Loyalty being important for enhancing profitability.

(d)              Ethics in business is important for running business
