Tinplate Company of India Limited has the
distinction of being certified to the Occupational, Health & Safety Assessment series
(OHSAS) 18001 : 1999
The awarding of OHSAS 18001 certification
resulted from two stage certification audit carried out by M/s. NQAQSR Certification (P)
Ltd. The audit included all work units as well as the state of art Tinplate Hospital which
caters to the health and safety need of the employees.
The journey began with ISO 9000 series
certification in 1997 and now includes all the current recognized management systems
standards. OHSAS 18001 requires the presence of formal health and safety management
systems. It incorporates a structured approach to hazard identification and risk
management. The system makes health and safety management more effective by translating
risk assessments into action plans to achieve a reduction in accidents. This can
contribute to reduced accident risk and fewer occupational health problems throughout the
company, which manufactures products catering to the metal packaging needs of customers
both in India and abroad. With both ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, Tinplate exhibits itself as
responsible employer that cares for its employees and environment.
In the concluding ceremony, Mr. T.K. Ghosh VP (C)
stated "OHSAS 18001 marks another step in our strategy of continuous improvement and
customer satisfaction. The twin achievements are going to be a differentiator, adding
value to our stake holders apart from keeping ourselves ahead in the competition".
