In the light of the tremendous growth opportunities for tinplate in India, it was felt that it would be useful to have a Council whose purpose would be consolidation, development and promotion of the tinplate business with one voice in India. The primary objective of the Council is to promote usage of tinplate in India by highlighting its technical, environmental and economical benefits to the packaging sector.

The Tinplate Promotion Council (TPC) is established by the tinplate manufacturing industries and the tinplate converting industries, with TCIL being the founder member. It consists of TCIL, Tata Steel, SAIL and 12 major Can fabricators / fillers. The members account for nearly 70% of the high value added tinned and tin free steel products used both in packaging food products like processed edibles, beverage and in non-food packaging such as chemicals, paints, aerosols, battery jackets, crown caps and closures. TPC is focusing on fostering industry level relationships and reaching collectively to food processors / fillers to drive tinplate consumption. TPC is also involved in product-market development, marketing communication and addressing regulatory environment.
