CUSTOMER MEET
HYDERABAD -16th DECEMBER, 2011
A Customer Meet
for our esteemed customers in Andhra Pradesh was
organized at Hotel Novotel, Hitech City, Hyderabad. 25
customers drawn from various end-use applications were
in attendance. Participants from TCIL included MD, VP(M&S)
and NHMS apart from the SZ team.
The proceedings
started off with a Safety Briefing by the Chief of
Security, Hotel Novotel, followed by a Welcome Address
by ZMM(S). Mr Ashwini Sharma, NHMS, made a presentation,
touching upon points viz TCILs ramped up production
capacity, technological tie up with TSPE (erstwhile
CORUS PACKAGING) for bringing about improvement in our
product offerings, findings of the Customer Survey
conducted last year and steps taken by TCIL to address
the shortcomings thrown up by the survey. A short movie
on Business Excellence was also screened.
Mr Tarun Daga,
MD, in his address to the gathering, thanked all
customers present for taking time off to make it to the
Meet. Mr Daga set the tone of his address by remarking
that such meets are essentially required to be organized
more often to promote frequent exchange of ideas and
views amongst the Tinplate packaging fraternity and then
take it forward with Brand Owners. He informed that
these meetings can be held under the aegis of Tinplate
Promotion Council, which is now looking forward to
holding meetings at other regional centres too, besides
Mumbai.

Mr Daga
presented an overview of happenings in TCIL and informed
of organizational changes at senior level that have
taken place recently with the joining of Mr Ramesh Iyer
as VP(Operations & TQM) and Mr Sarvesh Kumar as VP(M&S).
MD also briefed about the difficulties faced by TCIL
with regard to frequent price fluctuations, TCILs focus
on bring about quality improvements on all fronts and
the dual quality specifications being taken up by BIS
and emphasized on the fact that only can makers who have
used quality products have grown over the years. Mr
Daga stated that there is a big need to promote Tinplate
as a packaging medium in a more aggressive manner. He
mentioned about the initiative taken by TCIL to promote
cans thru Steel Junction as a small step in this
direction. Mr Daga lamented the state of affairs with
regard to the syllabus on Tinplate Packaging course at
IIP which was framed decades ago and mentioned that as a
cause for poor awareness and enthusiasm amongst the
present day youngsters in taking up this subject as a
professional course and career. He pointed out that
some of these youngsters could be headed for decision
making roles in MNCs and lack of adequate information
and awareness would only be detrimental to the cause of
Tinplate as a packaging medium. He called upon all
concerned for a joint effort to re-frame the syllabus.
