Chairman of The Tinplate Company of India Limited (TCIL),
performed the 'Ground Breaking Ceremony' of the Second Electrolytic
Tinning line, ETL 2, on 3rd September 2006 at Golmuri Works,
Jamshedpur
TCIL has a history of pioneering several industry initiatives since its inception in 1920. The latest in this line of firsts is the setting up of the Solution Centre last December. It is the first step in TCIL’s efforts to graduate from being a mere downstream steel business towards its vision of becoming a total metal packaging solution provider – the hallmark of a global major in the packaging business.
TCIL is now poised
to embark on an organic growth path. The ETL 2 is the first
step in this direction. The State-of-the-Art new combination
line with Electrolytic Tinning & Tin Free Steel production
facility is expected to enable TCIL to more than double
its capacity to 380000 MT by March 2008 with a wider range
of product offerings both in coil & sheet form for the discerning
customers, primarily in the growing domestic and international
markets and facilitate in consolidating its undisputed status
as the leader in the domestic market and emerge as a world
class regional player.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Muthuraman, lauded the efforts of TCIL in the direction of Growth and said that in order to survive in today’s globally competitive atmosphere, it has become imperative for a Company to upscale and provide value added products and services. He said that now Companies think of the entire globe as their market. The mergers and acquisitions that we keep reading in newspapers is a reflection of the same. The doubling of capacity would enable the Company to meet the competitive challenges posed by a host of emerging packaging options. The second tinning line would also help TCIL to strengthen its position in the international markets and reach out to newer destinations.
Earlier, Mr. Bushen Raina, Managing Director, TCIL, while welcoming the assembled guests said that the ETL-2 would have the capacity of 200000 Ton per annum. Agility & efficiency in implementation of the project will be the key challenge in the coming years which will enable TCIL to realize its potential to emerge as a leading regional player in Asia.
