Born
in 1922, out of a commitment to make India self-sufficient
in manufacturing of tinplate, The Tinplate Company
of India Ltd, an associate of Tata Steel, has
pioneered the tinplate industry in India.
It is
today the largest indigenous producer of tin coated
and tin free steel sheets in India, enjoying 35-40%
market share and undoubtedly the industry leader
for 85 years. The company exports about 20-25%
of its production directly to end-users (can-makers)
and its products are well accepted in the markets
of SE Asia, Middle East and some developed countries
in Europe.
Headquartered
in Kolkata, the Companys Works is located
at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. There are presently
8 zonal offices and a distribution network with
15 stocking points. |

Works, situated at Golmuri, Jamshedpur has presently
two units- a combination line of Electrolytic
Tinplate (ETP)/ Tin Free Steel (TFS) and Cold
Rolling Mill (CRM).The company has set up a 2-stand
(Double Cold Rolling) DCR Mill, backed up by state-of-
the-art technology obtained from SMS Germany and
UEC, USA for the manufacture of DR tinplate.
The Company
is in the business of providing cost effective
metal packaging solutions for processed edible
products. It manufactures various grades of electrolytic
tinplates, tin-free steel sheets and Full Hard
Cold Rolled Sheets (FHCR) used for metal packaging.
The company's ETP line operates at as high as
135% of its nameplate capacity (90,000 MT) while
the capacity utilization of CRM is over 160% of
its rated capacity (1,20,000 MT).
The metamorphosis
of the company from a mere 'tinplate manufacturer'
to a 'metal packaging solution provider' took
shape on the 3rd of December 2005 with the inauguration
of 'Solution Centre' by Mr.B.Muthuraman, Chairman,
TCIL.

sales to immediate customers / end users (i.e.
