CII (ER) Quality Award 2001 - 02 to TCIL
The Tinplate Company of India Limited has won the
trophy for the first position in category "A" of CII (ER) Quality Award 2001-02
(a rotating shield for large scale companies) for serving as a role model to others in
methods & systems practiced in pursuing the concept of Total Quality.
This award is given by Confederation of Indian
Industry (Eastern Region) to member companies every year for bringing further improvements
in these methods and systems towards pursuit of "Total Quality".
Managing Director of TCIL, Mr. B. L. Raina
received the award presented on the occasion of annual regional meeting of CII (ER) held
on 9th April 2002 in Kolkata.
TCIL has been pursuing and practicing Tata
Business Excellence Model as an assessment tool for overhauling its business processes and
driving excellence. Since then TCIL has been focusing on key strategic initiatives like
Key Account Management, Total Operational Performance, Total Productivity Maintenance,
Quality Improvement Projects, and Quality Circles etc. TCIL also bagged the 3rd position
in state level Q.C. competition organized by CII (ER) in 2001-02.
It is significant to note that in 2000-01, CII
(ER) awarded TCIL the First Position in Category "A" for significant improvement
in productivity as well as the Safety Award for commendable efforts made in the field of
Safety last year. Bringing about all-round quality improvement in Indian Industry is one
of the top priority areas of CII. The Confederation recognizes the fact that unless Indian
Industry re-engineers its business processes and drives excellence programmes on
continuous improvement cycle, it will not be able to stand up to the forces of increased
internal and international competition resulting from a conscious policy of the Government
to open up the economy. Nor would it be able to make any inroads into the World markets
and increase exports on a sustained basis which is so vital for our development. CII has,
therefore, taken up pursuit of Total Quality as an area for special attention and has
initiated a number of activities with the objective of initiating a total movement within
Indian industry. In recognition of taking exemplary initiative in this strategic
direction, CII (ER) had been giving Quality Awards since 1988. |
