PRESS RELEASE
SPPE
Inter-school Painting Competition, Colour Splash-8 Held at Centre for
Excellence on 29th January 2009 at 9.30 a.m.
It was to bring about an attitude of care and concern for the immediate
surroundings that the Society for Promotion of Professional Excellence (SPPE)
embarked on an ‘awareness for environment’ journey for agents of change,
the young citizens, almost eight years ago. The inter-school painting
competition, Colour Splash is one such effort organized annually at the
Centre for Excellence.
Children of all ages love to paint. They paint their surrounding as they
see it; not only what is immediately perceived but also what is visible
to their inner selves. Painting with children is a powerful medium and a
great way to teach them how to think out-of-the-box, to experiment,
learn cause and effect and think about sustainable practices to preserve
and conserve natural resources.
We are very happy that the Tinplate Company of India Ltd. (TCIL)
partnered the SPPE in this noble effort and are grateful to Mr. Bushen
Raina, Managing Director, TCIL, for so graciously sponsoring the event
for the third time.
Ours is called a ‘throw-away’ society and we probably deserve that
label. We happily and eagerly purchase goods displayed so prominently in
malls and departmental stores but are reluctant to accept the
consequences of getting rid of packaging waste. Moreover, we are running
out of space to put our trash and garbage. Tin packaging, on the other
hand, is environmentally friendly and is the only alternative to the use
of ‘plastic’ and environmental degradation it causes. Its attribute of
being reduced and reused, helps to conserve our natural resources and
therefore Tin is rightly called ‘green packaging’.
In keeping with the theme of ‘Tin’, Mr. Bushen Raina, the chief Guest on
the occasion, announced the subject of the painting competition to
approx. 400 participants- The senior group had the option to paint
“Building a Green World with Tin” or “Managing our Packaging Waste” The
junior group was given the task of painting “A poster banning the use of
Plastic or “A visit to a food store” Mr. Raina inaugurated the
event by releasing colourful balloons and painting a few strokes on a
canvas.
Our panel of Judges who will evaluate the entries are Mr. Krishna Mahato,
a Senior Instructor of Jamshedpur School of Art. He is a specialist in
sculpture and oil painting. Mr. Rajesh Bajpayee has been teaching at JSA
for the last twenty years. He specializes in commercial work and abstact
paintings. Mr. Public Biswas is a famous stage decorator and an outdoor
media specialist.
