Chairman Visit to Tinplate - 2nd Aug, 2004

The Chairman,TCIL, Mr. B. Muthuraman and Managing Director of Tata Steel inaugurated the Fluidised Bed Boilers with Electrostatic Precipitator in the Company premises today.

As a commitment to provide clean environment, this equipment minimizes the dust emission. This unit is equipped with one common electrostatic precipitator having gas flow of 10 cubic meter/sec., inlet dust concentration of 56 gm/Normal meter and gas temperature of 1800C. This will ensure a level of outlet dust concentration below 150 mg/Normal cubic meter which is substantially less than pollution norm of 600 mg/Normal cubic meter for these capacity boilers.

This boiler has been installed at a cost of Rs.3.80 crores by replacing the old fluidised bed coal fired boiler. The new boiler will also help conserve fuel because of its higher efficiency. The company's commitment towards environment was recognized earlier by M/s NQAQSR Cerification Pvt. Ltd. with the award of the environment management system ISO-14001 certification. The Company has the distinction of being certified to the Occupational, Health and Safety assessment series (OHSAS) 18001:1999.

Mr. Muthuraman later inaugurated the new air-conditioned auditorium in the Company premises.This was a long-standing need of the company for its corporate and institutional events. The air-conditioned auditorium, equipped with the latest electronic business aids, including the latest audio-visual system and digital video decoder, is ideally suited for seminars and lectures. Carefully designed to balance corporate needs, aesthetics requirements and concern for ergonomics, the auditorium has a seating capacity of up to 100 persons.

Mr Muthuraman on his assuming the office of Chairman, TCIL was felicitated by Mr. Bushen Raina, MD, TCIL and officers of TCIL. Mr. Rakeshwar Pandey, President, GTWU was present on the occasion.
