Tinplate Observed World Environment Day on 5th
June, 2003
In keeping with its annual
tradition, the Tinplate Company undertook a massive tree plantation drive near the
Tinplate Officers' Enclave this morning to celebrate the World Environment Day. Mr. A. K.
Sinha, Director, Personnel and Industrial Relations performed the honours of planting the
first sapling and formally inaugurating the programme.
Congratulating the company for taking the
initiative to spread environmental awareness, Mr. Sinha urged all those present to show
greater concern for saving the environment from pollution because that would ultimately
benefit the whole society.
Also present on the occasion was Mr. A. Raju, the
general secretary of the Tinplate Workers' Union. He expressed deep concern over the
deteriorating state of the environment, specially the eroding of the crucial ecological
balance that was so essential for healthy living.

these problems related to environment are due to the extensive and large-scale
deforestation that has taken place in our country," he said.
To mark the occasion, hundreds
of saplings were planted both inside the Tinplate works as well as in the Tinplate
Township. The entire programme was convened by the Environmental control department of the
Tinplate Co. in collaboration with the Parks and Gardens division of its administrative
wing.
Among those who participated in the tree
plantation drive included several office-bearers of the Tinplate Workers Union as well. In
