A TCIL
Initiative - `Model Farm` in Lupungdih Village , 26.07.2011
|
As
part of the Sustainability effort in the villages adopted by
TCIL, we have established a `Model Farm` in Lupungdih Village
.It is exemplary to note that the villagers themselves have
given a plot of land, about 6 acres, for Tinplate to establish
this farm. Normally, in today's scenario no villager would do
this for a corporate house. In that plot, we have planned to
have an orchard of fruit trees and a cultivable plot for
vegetables. We plan at least 3 crops there. The villagers at the
moment do only one crop per year, on the basis of the monsoon
being favorable. Earlier we had dug a pond for providing
irrigation to this farm. Pumps and pipes have been provided. |

On the 26th
of July this farm was jointly inaugurated by Mr. Venkataraman, Chief,
Operations of TCIL, Mr. S.D. Tripathy, General Secy. of our Workers
Union and Mr. Ganesh Solanki, Head of the Jilla Parishad (newly elected)
of the area.A bus load of Officers and Union officials from Tinplate
went for the inauguration. The SHG members were present along with a
sizeable number of the villagers. Ms. Deepa Verma, Mr. Uttam Mishra, Mr.
Devanand Sinha and many other officers were present. Mr. D.K. Singh, Mr.
Kashinath, Mr. B. Jha, Mr. Shiva Raju and many others from the Union
participated.
After the
inauguration, all present, planted fruit trees. All Village Panchayat
officials did the same.
The SHG members and other villagers then recieved fruit trees for
plantation in their own plots.
A step towards greening the area was taken. The challenge now is to make
them survive. We have made provision for the Sabor Tribals to water the
plants in the Farm in case the rain plays truant.
Recently a
storm had blown away the houses of the `Sabors`, a tribe becoming
extinct, in the area. We have helped them rebuild their houses, provided
community meals to tide them over the crucial period, and gave them work
in this Farm, so that they can sustain themselves.
Also as a
part of the tree-plantation plan, (The program to plant 10000 saplings)
a vacant land near Tinplate Hospital Main Gate has been properly fenced
and earmarked for planting 500 nos. of saplings. Saplings were planted
at large on 23rd July 2011
The Team
Sustainability thanks all who participated.
